Victorian milliners adorned their hats with exotic feathers, colorful ribbons, and fabrics. Adjunct Curator of Textiles, Kayla O’Connor, presents this exciting workshop for adults that begins with a brief gallery tour of the hats included in the exhibit The Beautiful Bodice: Fashions from the 1890s and is followed by demonstrations of basic hat trimming skills and Victorian ribbon working techniques in an easy and fun environment for beginners and experts alike. Using a 5-inch blank top-hat form and other items in your kit, you’ll learn to create your own reproduction of the hats and bonnets worn during the time of Toulouse-Lautrec, or create your own vision of a fashionable headpiece. Your imagination won’t be limited as you can choose from three design categories: Victorian (one color and accent), Goth, (black on black), and Steampunk (industrial and metal themes). Members $15, nonmembers $20. Fee includes all materials necessary. Seating is limited. Buy online or call 610-432-4333 ext. 132 by July 24th.
