Dan Haxall: "Deciphering Contemporary Art"

Modern? Postmodern? Contemporary? Confused about the difference? In this lecture, Dr. Daniel Haxall will investigate the various ways contemporary art is defined, particularly in the United States.  He will introduce the major trends and themes of today's art world, ranging from historical and theoretical perspectives to spaces of production and exhibition. Daniel Haxall is Associated Professor of Art at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.  He received his Ph.D from Pennsylvania State University, where his dissertation, "Cut and Paste Abstraction: Politics, Form, and Identity in Abstract Expressionist Collage," was supported by fellowships from the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Institute for the Arts and Humanities.  He previously taught at the University at Buffalo and Penn State University, and has lectured at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Harvard University, New York University, Asheville Art Museum,  Palmer Museum of Art, and College Art Association.  $5 for members; $15.  Call 610-432-4333 ext. 110.
