Francisco Goya and Colonial Puerto Rico: The Legacy of Spanish Court Portraiture and Social Criticism in the Caribbean
Goya’s portraits and his print series Los Caprichos influenced the style and subject matter of two of Spanish Puerto Rico’s leading artists: the Afro-Puerto Rican painter José Campeche and the American-born Spaniard painter Francisco Oller. The impact of Goya on Puerto Rican art will be discussed in both English and Spanish in this illuminating presentation of artistic exchange.
