Our America / Nuestra América artist Pepón Osorio talks about his cultural background and how it has informed/affected his art. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he was educated at the Universidad Inter-Americana and later at Herbert H. Lehman College in New York, receiving an MA from Columbia University in 1985. Osorio’s pieces usually evolve from interactions with the neighborhoods and people among which he is working. He says, “My principal commitment as an artist is to return art to the community.”
